Trail overview
Horsley Hills also called Yenugu Mallama Konda (Telugu) and Ooty of Andhra is situated approximately 130kms from Bangalore. It’s a 3 to 3.5hr ride including some stops en route. The roads leading to the hills is a combination of four-laned highway, a dual carriageway and scenic country roads. We recommend one to cruise along and enjoy the countryside. It’s advised to avoid riding at higher speeds on these stretches and enjoy the scenic route instead.
The 9km climb from the entrance of the hill to the summit is pure bliss as it offers some lovely views, smooth wide tarmac and some nice twisties along the way. It’s not as crowded as any of the other commercial hills that are situated close to Bangalore, and this makes it an ideal riding destination, especially if you’re looking for a day ride.
Go for this ride on a weekday if you can, as everyone is rushing to the big city, enjoy riding out into the country.
Trail Tip
Places to see on route.
The trail passes through Hoskote and Kaiwara. As you get out in the morning, we recommend you leave early, around 630am, You will need to get a good breakfast. Hoskote offers some good spots. A popular attraction every Tue, Fri and Sun is the Biryani in Hoskote. Yes! for breakfast! only open between 6.30am to 9am. Details of the places are on the trail.
Kaiwara
As you pass Kaiwara cross, if you have the time, it’s a good detour to make to visit this temple. Kaiwara is known for Saint Narayanappa (1730-1840 AD), popularly known as Kaiwara Narayana Thata, who was a bilingual poet. Narayanappa prophesied and composed Keertanas (poems in praise of the Lord in different forms) in praise of Amara Narayanaswamy, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, in both Kannada and Telugu languages.
Once you get there.
Horsley Hills is a fairly small hill and hence doesn’t offer a lot of options when it comes to food and accommodation. While there are a few private hotels, we recommend trying out the restaurant Harita and resort run by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC). It is situated close to various tourist attractions such as the Horsley Hill Zoo, Kalyani – the big eucalyptus tree and the western viewpoint.
Riding from Bangalore to Horsley Hills is an ideal day ride and one can head out early in the morning and be back in town by sunset. This hill is not known to a lot of people despite it being situated close to Bangalore.

The Asian Paradise Flycatcher is often spotted at Horsley Hills. The habitat is ideal for this little bird.
